Experienced investors can discover new markets and investments through the ii360 tool, shaping it around what matters to them. They’ll have a 360 view of their investments, with technical charts, company fundamentals and analyst ratings, as well as the ability to include richer details, real-time data and advanced order types to execute their strategy.

John Dobson, Head of Investor Solutions at interactive investor, says: “We are always innovating to expand our offering to ensure our investors have the best experience; adding value for every investor – however they want to invest. This is why we launched ii360, to assist passionate, experienced investors who want an even greater investing experience.

“ii360 brings together advanced screening, professional charting, and global market access together in one single platform – giving investors more control and insight when it comes to their investments.”

How technical analysis can enhance your broader investment strategy

Victoria Scholar, Head of Investment at interactive investor, explains: “The broad array of advanced technical analysis tools available on the ii360 platform provide interactive investor customers with another competitive advantage when it comes to investing.

“There are hundreds of technical indicators available to use including moving averages, Bollinger bands, Fibonacci levels, the Relative Strength Index (RSI), among others4.

“The study of charting patterns can help investors gauge where an asset might be heading next by analysing trends, momentum, volatility, key levels and more. For fundamental investors, technical analysis can act as a tool to provide extra evidence in support of a market view and help source attractive entry points. Experienced investors particularly with large portfolios might find the platform helpful by making it easier to monitor and analyse the markets through watchlists and alerts at key levels.”

[4] Glossary:

Moving averages look at the average of a price of an asset over a defined time period. They are designed to remove short-term disruption and create a smoothed out line that relates to recent price action. There are various ways to use moving averages such as by looking at whether price is above (bullish) or below (bearish) a moving average. Crossovers can also be an important signal such as if price crosses above the MA (bullish) or below (bearish). A (bullish) golden cross is when a shorter-term MA crosses above a longer-term MA while a (bearish) death cross is when a shorter-term MA crosses below a longer-term MA.

Bollinger bands are a visual way to understand the level of volatility in the market. They consist of a middle band that represents a simple moving average combined with an upper and lower band, each typically drawn two standard deviations away from the middle band. Hitting the upper or lower band suggests that price is reaching overbought or oversold levels respectively. A narrowing of the bands suggests volatility is low and could signal a potential breakout ahead.

Fibonacci levels are set horizonal lines drawn on a chart, derived from the Fibonacci sequence that highlight possible zones of support or resistance during pullbacks or reversals. The key Fibonacci retracement levels are 23.6%, 38.2%, 50% and 61.8%. A break above or below one of these levels is understood to be significant. The 61.8% is considered to be the most important Fibonacci level.

Relative Strength Index (RSI) is a widely used momentum indicator that looks at relative strength over a set period. A formula is used to create a line that moves up and down between 0 and 100. A reading above 70 points to overbought conditions, while under 30 suggests the market is oversold. The RSI tends to work well in combination with other technical tools rather than in isolation.
